Welcome
Rotherham Evangelical Church is a community of believers in Jesus from a variety of backgrounds. Our aim is to represent Jesus and reflect his kingdom in Rotherham and the surrounding areas. Every Sunday we meet together in order to learn about and celebrate who Jesus is and what he has done for us.
Many people within our congregation have been following Jesus for a long time, but we try very hard to make our services understandable and accessible to someone who has never entered a church. Below you can read exactly "what to expect" if you join us at our Sunday gathering.
Service time and location
We meet every Sunday at 3:45pm for coffee/tea and 4:15pm for the worship service at Broom Methodist Church & Community Centre, 1 Stag Lane, Rotherham, S60 3NR.
What to expect
At our gathering on Sundays, you will find a mix of people who have been Christians for a long time, some who have recently become Christians, and others who are just exploring the faith.
Our gathering begins around 3:45pm with some coffee/tea and cakes. This time is relatively informal, but it allows us to get to meet visitors and catch up with friends.
At 4:15pm our service begins with singing a few songs, usually a mix of old and new ones. We read a passage from the Bible and pray together. Then one of our ministers typically gives a 35 – 45 minute talk about the passage that was read from the Bible. After the service, we tend to stick around for a few minutes and spend time with one another. The service generally lasts approximately 60 – 75 minutes.
If you are visiting, you can participate in as much or as little as you like. We attempt to give simple instructions about when to stand and sit and what we're doing in each part of the service. Our aim is for the visitor to feel as comfortable as the long-time member.
What's available for children?
We offer a fully-staffed children's program with DBS-vetted leaders for children ages 0-12. We divide the children's program into four age groups: Créche (0 – 4), Sparks (Reception – Year 2), Ignite (Year 4 – Year 6), and Ignite + (Year 7 - Year 9).
The children are sent off to their programs during the song prior to the sermon. Infants and toddlers (0 – 4) must be dropped off and picked up by a parent or guardian at the créche classroom. The older age groups can be let out with a volunteer and they'll be returned to the main hall with a volunteer at the conclusion of the service. The children will sing songs, hear an age-appropriate lesson from the Bible, work on a craft that corresponds to the lesson, and play games.

Our service location is fully wheelchair accessible.
Language
Our congregation includes some people who don't speak English as their native language. We currently provide manuscripts of the sermon in Farsi, French and Portuguese. Please let one of the ministers know if you would like to request a sermon manuscript or outline in a different language.
